Art in London: RCA Secret

RCA Secret is an exhibition by the Royal College of Arts where works of art by the likes of David Bailey and Orla Kiely are on sale for just £45…

2,700 specially designed postcards are going on sale this Saturday after a week on display at the RCA. Each has been donated by an RCA graduate or renowned artist such as Paula Rego, Julian Opie, Yinka Shonibare, David Bailey, Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park, fashion designers Paul Smith, Orla Kiely and Christopher Bailey, Stone Roses guitarist John Squire and Sir James Dyson (the list goes on).

The secret is that each postcard is signed on the back so until you’ve made a purchase you won’t know if your £45 has bought you the work of a fresh-faced graduate or internationally celebrated artist.

Curator Willhelmina Bunn says “The breadth of artistic styles make a visually stunning exhibition, with contributions by artists and designers from all walks of life displayed next to each other.”

Now in its 20th year the project has raised over £1 million for the RCA Fine Art Student Award Fund and this Saturday the RCA hope to  raise a further £120,000. Shouldn’t be too hard with queues around the block predicted from 5am!

I’m heading down to Battersea tomorrow to see how various collectors get on and hopefully have a chat with Willhelmina about the exhibition.

If you’ve been to the exhibition or you’re going to the sale I would love to hear from you:
